Terms of Service

Last updated September 25, 2026

These are the ground rules for working with us. By requesting a quote or placing an order, you agree to them.

Who we are

Bad Designs is a sole proprietorship based in Raleigh, North Carolina. “We” and “us” in these terms mean Bad Designs.

Quotes

A quote is an estimate until we confirm it in writing. We may adjust it once we have your part in hand. If we do, we’ll tell you before any work starts, and you can decline. If you decline, we’ll refund what you’ve paid in full and ship your original part back to you at our cost.

A written quote is valid for 30 days from the date we send it.

Payment

We don’t take payments on this website. Once you approve your quote, we’ll email you an invoice through Stripe, and you pay it on Stripe’s secure payment page. You can either:

  • pay in full when you approve your quote, or
  • pay a deposit when you approve your quote, and pay the balance when your order is complete. We ship your order and your original part back once the balance is paid.

Cancellations

You can cancel an order by emailing us any time before we send you the finished file or part. We’ll refund what you’ve paid, except for any scan we’ve already completed: scans are non-refundable once the work is done. Either way, we’ll send your original part back at our cost.

Once we’ve sent your finished order, it can’t be cancelled or returned. If something’s wrong with it, our Returns Policy applies instead. That includes a refund if we can’t fix the problem, even for a scan.

What printed parts are for

Our 3D printed parts are for cosmetic, trim, and non-structural use only. They are not rated for safety-critical use and must not be used for:

  • brakes
  • steering
  • suspension
  • restraints, such as seat belts and airbag components
  • structural components

If you install a part somewhere it wasn’t meant to go, that risk is yours.

Logos and trademarks

We don’t reproduce trademarked emblems, logos, or badging. If a part carries one, we’ll leave it off the reproduction or decline the job.

Your right to have a part copied

When you send us a part, you confirm that you have the right to have it scanned or reproduced. We may decline any job we’re not comfortable with.

Who owns scans and files

Buying a scan or digital file from us gets you a license to use it, not ownership of it. We keep the copyright in the 3D scan data, meshes, and files we create, such as STL files.

Your license lets you:

  • keep the file and use it for as long as you like
  • print the part, or have it printed, for your own vehicles
  • modify the file for your own use

Your license doesn’t let you sell, share, or publish the file, or sell parts printed from it, unless we’ve agreed to that in writing.

Ownership of a scan or file moves to you only if we both sign a written agreement that says so. If you need full ownership, ask us before you approve your quote.

Because we keep the copyright, we may use scans and files we create in our own work, for example in our portfolio. Physical parts are different: any printed part you buy from us is yours outright. Our copyright covers only the scan data and files we make. It doesn’t cover the design of your original part.

Shipping, returns, and your original part

See our Shipping Policy and Returns Policy. The Returns Policy includes what happens if your original part is lost or damaged while we have it.

Limit of liability

Our total liability for any order is limited to the amount you paid us for that order. The one exception is your original part: if it’s lost or damaged while in our care, it’s covered up to its declared value, as described in our Returns Policy.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of North Carolina. Any dispute will be handled in the state or federal courts located in Wake County, North Carolina.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The version in effect when you approve a quote applies to that order.
